Metro Denver Crime Stoppers

Since 1981, when Metro Denver Crime Stoppers was established, more than 1,900 offenders have been arrested, $2.6 million in narcotics has been taken off the streets, more than $2.6 million in stolen property has been recovered, and over $900,000 in cash rewards have been given. Crime Stoppers is a partnership of the community, the media, and law enforcement designed to combat crime and keep our streets safe.

Crime Stoppers programs in communities around the world take anonymous tips to assist investigators to solve crimes including homicides, sexual assaults, drug trafficking, and robberies, to name a few.

Crime Stoppers programs are operated as not-for-profit charities and are managed by a volunteer board of directors who take responsibility for fundraising and paying rewards to individuals who anonymously call with information that helps solve crime. If the information provided by the anonymous caller leads to an arrest by the police and acceptance of the case by the District Attorney, a cash award of up to $2,000 may be made to the caller.

How Crime Stoppers Works

People who have information that can help solve crimes call Crime Stoppers anonymously and provide a tip that may help investigators identify those responsible. Three key reasons individuals will not directly provide information are fear of reprisal, an attitude of apathy, and reluctance to get involved.

Crime Stoppers breaks through these barriers by giving people the opportunity to provide information without directly speaking to police or having to testify in court. Obviously investigators need witnesses to help prove their case in court, but most importantly they need information that allows them to zero in on a suspect or a criminal operation.
