Impact Unit

The Parker Police Department has one detective assigned to the joint Douglas County Impact Unit. The Impact Unit was created to distinctively address hard-to-solve crimes that are committed by semi-organized, habitual, or career criminals who commit crimes with a repeat or "pattern" in Douglas County. The Impact Unit is a multi-jurisdictional team consisting of officers from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Parker, Lone Tree and Castle Rock Police Departments.

The Impact Unit ultimately enhances the quality of life for our citizens in the community. In the cases where offenders are arrested and prosecuted, the unit contributes to the welfare of Parker residents by addressing the reality and perception of crime.

Responsibilities

The Impact Unit handles such cases as:

  • Arson
  • Burglary
  • Criminal arson
  • Criminal trespass
  • Mischief/graffiti
  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Theft
  • Various other pattern-type offenses

This unit uses problem-solving techniques to help decrease the incident rate of these crimes.

Facts about the unit

  • The unit works with crime analysts and intelligence officers from Metro-area law enforcement agencies to learn about emerging crime trends and to develop suspect leads.
  • The Impact Unit applies specialized law enforcement skills, including computer and fraud crimes, street narcotics dealing, felony investigations, and undercover operations.
  • Since its inception, the unit has been tremendously successful, catching hundreds of criminals in the act and solving cases that may otherwise have gone unsolved.
  • The Impact Unit works closely with property crimes detectives within the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Parker, Lone Tree and Castle Rock Police Departments because most of the pattern crimes are property-related felony crimes or narcotics enforcement.
