Weather reports from spotters will help save lives and property during the years to come. The volunteer spotter team is an essential part of the warning decision process of the National Weather Service. Ground truth reports from spotters are used in conjunction with Doppler radar, satellite, and other sources to determine the need for weather warnings and advisories.
On Tuesday, April 24, the Parker Police Department will be hosting a Become a Weather Spotter class from 6:00-8:30 p.m. For more information or to register, please visit our Weather Spotter web page.

Registered Parker area residents will attend the Police Department’s 10-week Citizen's Police Academy program. This program gives participants first-hand information about how the Police Department operates. Classes will focus on criminal law, mounted patrol, evidence, dispatch, traffic laws, accident reconstruction, DUI laws, K-9, youth education programs and many other topics. In addition to the interactive classes, there is an optional trip to the law enforcement firearms training facility where participants will have the opportunity to fire weapons used by the police officers. All attendees will also be invited to participate in a graduation at the end of the program.
The interactive workshops, combined with field trips and tours, requires a commitment of one night a week from 6 to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks. All classes are held on Thursday nights, with the optional Saturday class at the shooting range.
