American Red Cross Hero Award Winner Parker Police Officer Guzzo

Congratulations, Officer Guzzo. The American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming honored him as one of six American Red Cross Hero award winners. Officer Guzzo demonstrated courage in the face of tragedy and met the challenge. When the opportunity presented itself, his heroic, swift actions helped save the lives of a father, a daughter and a boyfriend.

Below is a recap of the incidents considered for the Hero Award.

Officer Guzzo arrived less than 90 seconds after Jayde Budd dialed 9-1-1 on November 16, 2020. Her husband Garret wasn't breathing and didn't have a pulse after electrocuting himself. Officer Guzzo took over CPR from Mrs. Budd upon arrival. Less than three minutes later, Officer Dawn Cashman used an Automated External Defibrillator to shock Garret Budd and restore his heartbeat. The young father of two was alert and answering questions after South Metro Fire Rescue took over medical treatment and transported him to the hospital. Doctors and paramedics both stated Officer Guzzo's actions contributed to saving Garret Budd's life.

In March of 2020, Officer Guzzo arrived on the scene after a 17-year-old girl collapsed, wasn't breathing, and didn't have a pulse. He took over CPR until Officer Josh Cummins arrived and utilized an AED to administer a shock. After the shock, the victim regained a pulse and began breathing. Doctors and paramedics said CPR and the AED's use were contributing factors for the girl being alive.

Officer Guzzo responded to the call of a frantic woman whose boyfriend was unconscious and wasn't breathing. Upon arrival, Officer Guzzo administered a Narcan dose, and the 19-year-old man regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital. Officer Guzzo's quick, decisive action using Narcan was a critical factor in saving the man's life.

In December of 2019, Officer Guzzo was instrumental in saving a life on his first solo patrol day and a second life later that week.
