In 2016, the Parker & Lone Tree Communications Center received 17,136 calls on the 9-1-1 system. While across the country over 240 million calls are received at 9-1-1 centers annually. Many of these callers are young children who may be frightened and alone. Unfortunately, children are usually unfamiliar with what to do and say once they have reached the 9-1-1 center. With the growing need to educate children about the use of 9-1-1, there has been a program created called 9-1-1 for Kids, Inc.® that has been adapted by the Parker & Lone Tree Communications Center.The goal of the program is to teach all of the young children in the Parker and Lone Tree area about the importance of 9-1-1 and how to use it if they have an emergency. With the growing use of cell phone service and other optional telephone services like VoIP, it is of the utmost importance to continue a dialogue with the community about how to report and handle any emergency situation. Parker & Lone Tree Communications Center is offering FREE public education presentations designed for young children. There are three classes being offered on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Parker Police Department.
